FIND YOUR “NICHE”
Whether it’s paintings of dogs in historical-era outfits or limited edition Beanie Babies, there are people that are into what you’re into. A quick Facebook group search will confirm that there are most definitely multiple pages created in homage to the same service/product that you offer. Which leads to:
If all these other people do what you do, or offer what you offer, why should people come to YOU? No seriously, answer the question, because people will want to know! What are you offering that the competition isn’t? Little personal touches like a weekly or monthly newsletter can go a long way, and put a face to your brand.
PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE
There are a LOT of social media platforms out there these days, and the more you can capitalize on, the better. Don’t “play hard to get” and not sign up for Twitter because EVERYONE has Twitter. That’s the whole point- EVERYONE HAS TWITTER! If you want to show off what you can do, people have to be able to find you doing it.
CONTRIBUTE TO THE CONVERSATION
Don’t just be a passive social media profile; interact! It will give others a sense of your personality and your brand’s vibe, and you may even form friendships along the way. These friendships can prove to be beneficial, especially if you:
Co-hosting a contest or a give-away with a similar brand will benefit BOTH parties involved. If their fans like what they do, and what you do is similar… they’ll probably like you too! You can never have too many connections!
GRIN AND BEAR IT
When it comes to the wild world of the internet, you’re bound to encounter some “trolls”. They have nothing better to do than poke fun at your Instagram post or try to rile you up on Twitter. It may be hard to not write a snarky remark back, but it’s truly in your best interest NOT to. Keep calm, and if you DO respond, simply point out that if your content isn’t what they’re looking for, they’re free to “unfollow” you. Calling names or getting into petty arguments, even if you’re in the right, can be off-putting to potential fans; and the last thing you want to appear is unapproachable.

And check out THEIR audience. See what kind of promotional stuff they’re doing, since it seems to be working for them! Lastly, there’s the ever old fashioned:
WORD OF MOUTH
Tell your friends about your venture! Tell your friends to tell THEIR friends! Make business cards and leave them wherever you can- coffee shops, dentist offices, telephone polls. Tell your neighbors, tell your grandparents, tell your Zumba instructor; keep those lines of communication flowing!
